Netball ACT and Netball NSW today announced the appointment of the Canberra GIANTS Co-Head Coaches, for the 2018 Australian Netball League (ANL) season.
Canberra’s Sharyn Hill will return as one of two Canberra GIANTS Co-Coaches and will oversee training sessions in the ACT, while Maria Lynch also returns and will oversee the training for the NSW athletes.
Both Co-Head Coaches led the inaugural 2017 Canberra GIANTS team, who claimed third in their debut season of the ANL.
Co-Head Coach Maria Lynch is delighted to return “being part of the Canberra GIANTS is incredibly exciting. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Sharyn, Julie and the athletes in 2018 and to build on what was a super inaugural year.
“It’s a privilege to work with the future stars of our game and to be part of their pathway. The ANL provides such a great platform for this progression. The standard of competition is high and a huge step up for the athletes in terms of intensity both at training and competition. I look forward to the challenges ahead and enjoying the moments we create together as a group”.
Canberra based Sharyn Hill is also excited for the return and the opportunity to work with athletes in the competition.
“I am excited to return for a second year. It is a great opportunity to consolidate learnings from the inaugural year and continue to grow the program. Local players have been given the opportunity to see where the bar is set, and have worked hard over the year to be strong contenders for the team. The links that have been established in 2017 enable greater training and competition opportunities through the ACT and NSW pathway”.
The ANL is an important competition for the development and progression of netball talent. It is a feeder competition for the national competition Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) with coaches keeping a watchful eye on young talent coming through the ranks.
Rounding out the coaching appointments is Tara Steel returning as Assistant Coach. Steel will assist with coaching the Canberra GIANTS’ Development Squad, while gaining valuable exposure to the ANL high performance environment.
The ANL will commence in May 2018, with the team announced in November 2017. ANL Fixtures are yet to be released by Netball Australia, however further information will be released in due course.
