ACT U21 side ready to take on nations best

ACT U21 netball coach Melinda Clarke says her side is looking forward to taking on the nations best at the national championships in Caloundra beginning on Tuesday (March 10).

The ACT side has undergone a tough fitness program in preparation for six days of intense netball.

“These nationals are a great opportunity for our players to test their skills against the best U21 players in the country,” Clarke said.

“This year see’s the return of both Tasmania and the Northern Territory which is fantastic but it will also mean a tough playing schedule.”

“There will be double headers over the first three days which will test every teams depth.”

“I’m confident that if every player produces their best netball we will perform well.”

The ACT squad that will compete at the nationals includes a mix of both youth and experienced campaigners.

“Keely Rodrigo, Leigh Kalsbeek and Georgia Clayden are all returning from last year’s U21 squad, along with Alison Miller and Sophie Immonen who made their ANL debuts in 2014,” Clarke said.

“We also have five players who will back up and represent the ACT at the 19 & Under National Championships in April.”

The ACT takes on South Australia and Northern Territory on day one of the Nationals.

Australian selectors will name a national U21 squad at the end of the tournament.
