Beryl Friday ready for action

This weekend the Canberra GIANTS will take on the Tasmanian Magpies in Round 6 of the Deakin University Australian Netball League (DUANL).

With only four games away from the DUANL Finals, this is a crucial round for the Canberra GIANTS.

Shooter Beryl Friday is excited about the weekend ahead “This is my first time playing at the SolarHub ACT Netball Centre, and I am really excited. I have heard the Canberra crowds really get behind the DUANL, and we can’t wait to be out on the court”.

Friday continues “I believe we are in for two hard games, with Tassie sitting in second place and the Canberra GIANTS in third place. We see Canberra as our eighth player, and really need the Canberra crowd to get behind us this weekend”.

Friday debuted for the Canberra GIANTS in Round 1, and has been an integral part of the team. Co-Head Coach, Maria Lynch adds “One of our 2018 gems has been the re-invigorated Beryl Friday. Beryl has loads of experience and netball smarts which has certainly transferred on the court for our team. The most significant contributions she makes comes from her humble nature and her gentle yet tough leadership” Lynch said.

Lynch says with the business end fast approaching, Friday is playing a significant role going into the finals “Beryl has drawn our young ones in, encouraged them and challenged them. Beryl tells it like it is and plays it like it is. She goes about her match preparation in a no nonsense manner – she holds herself accountable and regularly shoots high percentages in the GA position. Beryl weaves some magic each game – with her silky skills and vision, accurate feeds and some well-timed defensive intercepts. Beryl adds some sparkle to the Canberra GIANTS front end of the court”.

The Canberra GIANTS will play at 6pm on Friday and Saturday night, with fans coming from across Canberra, NSW and Friday’s family travelling as far as Far North Queensland.

Both games are sold out. Doors open at 5pm, with face painting, hair stations and lots of games and activities.

We wish the Canberra GIANTS all the best for the weekend, and look forward to seeing them in action!
