Canberra Darters return home with the Blues
The Canberra Darters are still searching for their first win of the Australian Netball League after losing to both the NSW Blues and Waratahs over the weekend.
The Darters, who suffered a comprehensive 80-26 loss to the NSW Waratahs on Saturday night, were hoping to bounce back against the NSW Blues on Sunday afternoon.
But the Blues led throughout to win 58-42 and leave the Darters with a lot of work to do ahead of their upcoming three home games at the AIS Arena beginning on August 1.
The young NSW Blues side was quick out of the boxes leading by 10 goals at the end of the first quarter.
Showing patience in their build up the Blues continued to dominate play in the second term and at halftime stretched their lead to 16 goals.
The Darters brought Allison Miller on as goal shooter and her height saw the gap reduced to 12 goals with 15 minutes remaining.
Despite a more spirited effort in the final term the Darters couldn’t bridge the gap and the Blues ran out winners.
The Waratahs showed why they will again be up challenging for this years’ ANL championship with an easy 54-goal win over the Darters.
The Waratahs have appeared in the past four ANL grand finals winning the 2011 ANL championship.
The Darters have the bye for the next two weekends before preparing for there three home games at the AIS Arena from 1-3 August.
