Canberra GIANTS announce Leadership Group

With one week out until the start of the Australian Netball League (ANL), the Canberra GIANTS have named their Leadership Group for their 2018 season.

Taylah Davies will lead the group as Captain, with support from Maddie Hay and Ngawai Eyles as Co-Vice Captains.

Co-Head Coach Sharyn Hill congratulates Taylah on the role  “On behalf of myself and Co-Head Coach Maria Lynch, we are thrilled to announce Taylah as Captain.  The experiences she gained last season through the GIANTS Suncorp Super Netball program are evident in the intensity of performance and outstanding communication she brings to the group. Taylah brings energy and positivity to the team and is highly respected by teammates for her high performance behaviours and collaborative style”.

Davies from the Illawarra District has an impressive resume, including debuting for the Sydney Swifts in 2015 and the inaugural GIANTS Netball team in 2017, “I am so proud and honoured to be leading the Canberra GIANTS for the 2018 season alongside Maddie and Ngawai in the Leadership Group. I am truly humbled to be named Captain and extremely committed to the responsibility that is at hand. The GIANTS family means a lot to me personally and to have the respect of my teammates is something that cannot be underestimated “Davies said.

Davies said the team is ready for the season ahead “I am really excited for the season ahead and believe we can build from last years’ great results. We have quite a versatile team of youth and experienced girls that are really united.  I believe the role of the whole Leadership Group is important, not only on the court , but also helping to empower all the team to be the best that they can be.  I am confident that this mix of athletes from both NSW and the ACT can get the results out on the court. The ANL competition is a great platform for us netballers to test ourselves on the national stage and we can’t wait to get started”.

Centre court athlete Maddie Hay returns to the Leadership Group after a successful inaugural year, with Co-Vice Captain Ngawai Eyles making her debut in the ANL.

The Canberra GIANTS start their season on Saturday 5th of May, where they will take on the Southern Force at Priceline Stadium at 6pm.
