Netball ACT is pleased to announce the 2019 ACT based Canberra GIANTS Development Squad. The Canberra GIANTS Development Squad will primarily utilise the ACT as their training base, with the squad vying for selection in the Canberra GIANTS Team in the new year.
A joint initiative between Netball ACT and Netball NSW, the Canberra GIANTS team provides a direct pathway to the elite Suncorp Super Netball competition. The team is comprised of players from the ACT and NSW development pathways. This has allowed for a clearer player pathway for ACT athletes to elite netball via the Canberra GIANTS evolution.
Newly appointed Head Coach, Melinda Clarke is looking forward to seeing the group come together.
“The squad is comprised of athletes with great experience after a successful 2018 season, as well as some fresh faces, and I am excited to see what they bring to the program.
“It will be great to see the players who have been through the Netball ACT pathway get exposure at this level and see the squad and individuals develop their technical and tactical skills throughout 2019,” she said.
Netball ACT General Manager, Benita Bittner said 2018 was an exciting year, with the Canberra GIANTS finishing with a silver DUANL medal.
“We look forward to continuing to offer a pathway into SSN for our ACT athletes in a program where they can experience competitive netball at an elite standard.
“Netball ACT looks forward to continuing to work closely with GIANTS Netball to drive our partnership to new levels of success in 2019,” said Bittner.
