The Canberra GIANTS hit the road for the first time in 2017 when they take on the Tasmanian Magpies in Melbourne this weekend.
The Canberra GIANTS head into the double header buoyed by their last start 56-49 win over the Western Sting when they came from 13 goals down in the first quarter to record a morale boosting win.
Having won two of their first four games the Canberra GIANTS are currently in fifth position on the Australian Netball League ladder just two points behind league leaders Queensland Fusion and Victoria Fury.
Canberra GIANTS co-coach Sharyn Hill said this weekend’s games were an opportunity to build momentum.
“The girls will be on a high after finishing the series against the Sting with such a good win,” Hill said.
“We’ve split both our opening two rounds against strong opposition and the Magpies will be another tough test having won two of their four games.”
“The challenge heading to Melbourne is to come away with two wins and continue to build on our opening performances.”
“The competition is so tight that one or two wins can quickly see you climb up the ladder.”
The Tasmanian Magpies squad includes five Collingwood Magpies training partners as well as some of Tasmania’s most elite netballers.
The Magpies pulled off a huge upset in round one when they defeated last year’s champions the Victoria Fury.
It was only the Fury’s second loss since 2012.
