The Canberra GIANTS have stretched their unbeaten run to six games following a 60-49 win against the Southern Force at the SolarHub ACT Netball Centre in Lyneham.
In front of another sold out crowd the Canberra GIANTS proved too strong for the Force who tried hard throughout the four quarters.
In a tight opening term the Canberra GIANTS got away to an early 5-2 lead thanks to some good shooting from Kiera Austin and Melissa Tallent.
However, the Force worked their way back into the contest and when goal shooter Jane Cook landed a goal right on quarter time they headed into the first break leading 14-13.
The second term saw the Canberra GIANTS midcourt lift their work rate and with more possession they dominated the scoreboard.
The Canberra GIANTS established a 29-21 lead heading into halftime and they extended their advantage to 14 goals (45-31) with a one-quarter remaining.
The final term was a tight affair but as hard as the Force tried they couldn’t bridge the margin and the Canberra GIANTS ran out 11 goal victors (60-49).
Canberra GIANTS co-coach Maria Lynch praised her side for another solid performance.
“The girls are really coming together well with each game they play,” Lynch said.
“They are trusting each other and their commitment to every contest is great to see. Tonight was another important win for us given the tightness of the top four. The challenge now is for the girls to back up the effort in game two and come away with the series win.”
