Canberra GIANTS move into top four with victory over Magpies
The Canberra GIANTS have recorded back-to-back victories against the Tasmanian Magpies to move into the Australian Netball League top four for the first time this season.
The Canberra GIANTS defeated the Magpies 52-29 in game one before dominating all four quarters in game two to come away with a resounding 72-52 victory.
Game one saw a tight opening quarter with both sides locked at 8-all at the end of the first quarter.
The Canberra GIANTS got away in the second term to hold a 24-18 half-time lead but it was the third quarter where the damage was done.
A 17-5 quarter saw the Canberra GIANTS lead 41-23 and they continued their dominance in the last quarter to run away with an impressive 23-goal victory (52-29).
Game two saw the Canberra GIANTS lead throughout in a game where they were always in control
The Canberra GIANTS were boosted by GIANTS goal shooter Kristina Brice dropping down from the Suncorp Super Netball competition to play game two.
Brice was a focal point in the goal circle landing 52 goals.
“It was certainly a big boost having a player of Kristina’s quality available for game two against the Magpies,” Canberra GIANTS co-coach Sharyn Hill.
“She took advantage of some good work from our mid-court who moved the ball well throughout the four quarters.”
“We were pleased with the overall improvement in both games from last week and having now won three games in a row we are building some momentum.
“But no one is getting carried away because we know we have so much more improvement.”
The Canberra GIANTS are now within one game of league leaders the Victoria Fury and Queensland Fusion as they prepare for next week’s double-header against the Territory Storm.
