Flames Too Hot for Darters

The Canberra Darters found the Victoria Flames too hot to handle last night going down 63-36 in their Australian Netball League match played at the AIS Arena.

The Darters began strongly getting the opening two goals of the game through goal shooter Alison Miller but the Flames quickly hit back to lead 7-3.

The Flames ended the first quarter leading 14-10 with goal shooter Jane Cook’s height providing a focal point for the away team.

The second quarter saw the Flames fly out of the blocks scoring seven unanswered goals before the Darters registered a goal through Alix McDermott.

With the Flames mid-court starting to dominate they headed into the half-time break leading 31-20.

Darters coach Melinda Clarke made a number of changes at half time bringing on Michelle Massarany, Nat Jones, Bec Collis and Mardi Aplin.  However the Flames continued their domination extending their lead to 21 goals (51-30) with a quarter remaining.

The Darters tried valiantly in the final term but couldn’t narrow the margin and the Flames ran out deserved 63-36 winners.

The Flames best was goal shooter Jane Cook who landed 33 goals from 38 attempts while Alison Miller was outstanding for the Darters shooting 24 goals from 28 attempts.
