Canberra Darters find defending champions too hot
Defending champions the Victoria Fury have maintained their undefeated start to the Australian Netball League season with a 74-31 win over the Canberra Darters at the AIS Arena.
The Darters buoyed by their first win of the season against the Territory Storm on Saturday night were hoping to cause one of the upsets of the season against the Fury.
However, a poor first quarter saw the Fury set up a commanding 26-6 which saw the home side under the pump.
Although the Darters tried hard they couldn’t stem the flow of goals and the Fury increased their lead to 43-15 at halftime.
The third quarter was a more even affair as the Darters applied some midcourt pressure.
The Fury ended the term leading 57-23 and went onto to maintain their unbeaten start to the season winning by 43 goals.
The Darters travel to Adelaide next week to round off their Australian Netball League season against the Southern Force (Aug 9) and Western Sting (Aug 10).
The Darters win over the Territory Storm on Saturday night has seen them jump to ninth position on the ANL ladder.
The annual Minister’s Seven v ACT Local Media clash ended in a 16-all draw.
