Netball ACT secures Capital Works Grants

On Tuesday, 7 February 2017 Netball ACT had the privilege of hosting the 2017 Sport and Recreation Grants Program announcements.  Of the 70 organisations sharing in more than $2.7 million in funding, Netball ACT was delighted to receive a number of grants to assist in the ongoing development of the SolarHub ACT Netball Centre.

In additional to the renewal of Netball ACT’s Triennial Operational Program Funding, the Association secured funding under the Capital Assistance Program to assist with the re-development of the SolarHub ACT Netball Centre’s public toilets and the Asset Repair and Maintenance Scheme to repair the roof.  In total, Netball ACT secured close to $200,000 in funding.

Work has already begun with the demolition of the public toilets, first aid room and kitchenette off the foyer.  When completed, the public toilets will be brought up to the same standard as the recently renovated change rooms, the first aid room and kitchenette will be fitted out to allow better use by event staff and general public while the foyer floor will be refinished in polished concrete to create a more modern and durable entrance.

The roof repairs are schedule to begin in mid-March with the removal of the decaying skylights, repairing gutters and the replacement of faulty screws.  Upon completion of this project, it is anticipated the leaks that have plague the delivery of a number of competitions will be resolved and we will no longer need to cancel games on days of heavy rain.

All projects have been schedule to be completed prior to the 2017 National Netball Championships scheduled to be held at the SolarHub ACT Netball Centre in April.  This will create some disruption to the use of Netball ACT’s facilities during construction, we thank everyone for their patience as we build a better centre.

On behalf of Netball ACT, we would like to Minister for Sport and Recreation, Yvette Berry for their ongoing commitment to our sport.  These grants provide the platform for Netball ACT to continue to develop quality competitions, programs and services for our members and the wider community.
