Belconnen have consistently made the finals of the Canterbury State League netball competition but the question remains in 2014 can they take the next step and challenge for a title?
No one doubts the talent within their squad its just a matter of producing their best netball at the business end of the season. Belconnen made the top four last year defeating Queanbeyan in week one of the finals only to bow to Canberra in the major semi-final.
Belconnen coach Melinda Clarke will have the core of last year’s squad to work with and will look to promote a number of talented younger players in the top grade.
“The younger players will get their opportunity to shine in division one but it’s the senior players who we will be looking to lead the way,” Clarke said.
“In pre-season we’ve been working on fitness and ball skills but our focus has now switched to developing combinations and tactical components.”
“We need to be consistent in our effort over four quarters, reduce our errors and make the most of our chances when we have the ball.”
“With three games in the first week of competition its important we start the season strongly.”
Belconnen opens its 2014 campaign with a tough clash against Tuggeranong who are expected to be one of the big improvers this season.
