Tuggeranong look set to mount a serious challenge on the Canterbury State League netball competition with the return of three senior players and the recruitment of a former Sydney Swifts player.
After missing out on last year’s final series Tuggeranong welcome back former Australian U21 player Keely Rodrigo, Maddie White and Michaley Phokos.
Also joining Tuggeranong is former Swifts player Nardia McDonald who joins the club with a wealth of playing and coaching experience at all levels.
McDonald has played in the ANL competition and is currently playing in the NSW Waratah Cup.
Tuggeranong coach Nicole Bowles said she was pleased with her side’s preparations heading into the new season.
“We started preseason training in November last year allowing the players to maintain and improve their fitness, strength and refine our fundamental court skills,” Bowles said.
“The players are very excited about the start the season and we’re really looking forward to a getting off to a good start.”
“I expect Arawang, Belconnen and Canberra all to be up there challenging come finals time but like previous years it’s going to be a tough competition.”
Along with the return of experienced players Tuggeranong will also look to blood a number of their exciting juniors including Sophie Immonen, Hayley Ngametua and Shannon O’Keefe.
“These three players have worked hard over the preseason to earn themselves a place in the Division One side,” Bowles said.
“We are very excited to see what they bring to the team and court in 2014.”
Tuggeranong’s opening game of the season is against Belconnen. All division one games will be played at 9pm.
