Life Membership of Netball ACT (NACT) may be conferred by a majority of members at a General Meeting of the Association, on the recommendation of the Board, upon any person who has for a period of not less than ten (10) years rendered outstanding service to the sport of Netball in the ACT.
The Board of Directors at NACT put a call for life member nominations at the beginning of May. We are delighted to advise that the NACT Board has considered a number of very worthy nominations and are recommending to the members to confer Life Membership this year to:
Kim Clarke – As a volunteer Kim’s service to Netball ACT commenced back in 2001 as a District Delegate on the ACTNA Council. In 2005 she was part of the Working Committee established to review governance and finalise the new Netball ACT Constitution which was adopted in 2005. She was elected to the Board of Netball ACT in 2005 and held positions of Director, Special Director, Vice-President and President until 2015. During her time as President was appointed by the then Board to be Acting General Manager of Netball ACT during 2010 whilst the position was vacant. She was also the Netball ACT Delegate to the Netball Australia Council for a number of years.
Kim was also involved in the ACT State Programs as a Team Manager from 2000 through to 2015. During this period she was also manager of the AIS Canberra Darters which then became the Netball ACT Canberra Darters. In addition to these roles she was a Netball ACT Selector and mentor to many managers involved in the State Programs. Kim continues to contribute and deliver outstanding service to the sport of Netball in the ACT. She has been a longstanding member of the Belconnen Netball Association holding many different roles including President, Junior and Senior Representative Co-Ordinator, Selector, Coach and Mentor for over 30 years, and is still contributing as the Vice President of the Belconnen Netball Association today.
She was awarded the Australian Sports Medal in 2000.
Gary Pascoe – Gary has contributed to the growth and expansion of netball in the ACT for a period far in excess of a decade in the capacity of former President and committee member of the Canberra Netball Association (CNA), Netball ACT Board Member, and his current contributions as a State League Netball coach for the association. Gary has continued to support netball alongside his busy career and family commitments for an extended period, which has been exceptional.
Gary currently continues his involvement as a key member of the Senior State League coaching staff of the CNA, which is greatly appreciated by the association, particularly given the strong statement this provides to supporting female sports participation in the ACT.
We welcome and encourage all Netball ACT members to attend the General Meeting where the motion will be put forward for the membership to accept the Board recommendations. This is the only item on the agenda, so the meeting will not take very long.
Who can vote?
Players and Non-Players who are over 18, registered and are financial members with a District Association may cast one vote on any proposed resolution of the Association.
It would be great to have a large turn out of our members attend and get behind supporting these very well deserved nominations and recommendations for Life Membership.
The General Meeting will be held:
Date: Friday 21 June 2019 (State League Night – in between the end of the 6pm games and the start of the 7:30pm games)
Location: SolarHub ACT Netball Centre, 435 Northbourne Avenue
