GALA DAYS - PRIMARY SCHOOL

Netball ACT Primary School Gala Days in 2024!

Netball ACT's Gala Days offer a fantastic opportunity for all students to engage with the sport, whether they are seasoned players or completely new to netball.

We conduct Gala Days in all four School Sport ACT Regions for students in the Years 5/6 category, and in both the North and South Regions for Years 3/4.

Our primary goal for these events is to encourage student participation and foster enjoyment of netball, irrespective of their prior experience. Therefore, the Years 3/4 Gala Days are non-competitive.

In contrast, the Years 5/6 competition includes a local ACT finals day, with the chance to advance to the Netball NSW Schools Cup finals later in the year.

Yes, 3 males on court at one time (1 per netball third). On the day however, if both teams agree to play with more boys on the court that is ok as well. If one team does not agree it reverts back to the ruling of 3 boys on court.

REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT

The Gala Day entry fee is a flat rate of $60 per team.

The fee contributes to competition costs including covering insurance, court hire fees, first aid and administration and staffing for the event. Schools will be invoiced after the Gala Day.

Netball ACT will invoice the school contact following the event. You will be required to enter your schools finance email during registration so we can direct payments to them.

What if schools need to add teams, change or withdraw registration? Simply email Caitlin Hanna at caitlin.hanna@netballact.com.au with the details of the action required.

Yes, each school will need to fill out an individual team list form per team they enter. This form includes the names of all students attending and participating in the Gala Day. This form must be completed prior to the first game at 9:30am. The form may be submitted prior to the event via email or on the day during the team manager’s meeting.

DRAWS & UMPIRES

The draw for the event is impartial and does not take into account previous year's results.

Netball ACT will organize the participating teams into 2-4 pools, depending on the number of teams present on the day. Each pool will be assigned a specific timeslot. For instance, Pool A and C will be scheduled during timeslot A, while Pool B and D will play during timeslot B. In cases where a school has entered multiple teams, whenever feasible, Netball ACT will attempt to allocate the teams to different pools and, consequently, different timeslots.

Yes, for every team a school enters they must be able to provide an umpire. This umpire can be a teacher, older student of parent. We do ask that umpires selected have at least a basic understanding of the rules. If you are struggling to find an umpire, please reach out to Netball ACT.

Where possible the draw will be sent to the school contact 2 days prior to the event. Please note that an amended draw may need to be created the day before or on the day due to last minute changes.

ON THE DAY

- School teams will need to supply their own bibs/patches and a netball. If your school is struggling to supply these items please reach out to Netball ACT.

- Umpires will need to bring their own whistle.

- Schools who need shade or cover will need to bring their own marquees and ensure they are weighed down or pegged down to be safe.

- All students will need to bring their own food on the day. At some Gala Days there will be the option of purchasing food from the canteen.

Netball ACT will monitor the weather forecast and will postpone by 8am the morning of the event. All school contacts will be notified via email if this occurs.

Netball ACT will then release a new suggested date for the Gala Day.

Teachers and students are welcome to arrive at the courts from 8:15am.
