The 2022 Netball ACT Presentation Night was a celebration of ACT representative programs, the HCF State League as well as our community.
Netball ACT would like to thank everyone for their support in 2022, and congratulate the following award winners.
ACT STATE TEAMS:
17&U Coaches Award winner - Alice Henman
Throughout the Nationals campaign, Alice displayed grit and determination both on and off the court. Learning a new position, she excelled on court with her defensive presence and pressure. Off court she is an admired teammate who leads by example and puts the needs of the team above her own. Always a supportive teammate and uplifting team member.
19&U Coaches Award - Emma Smith
Emma led by example on and off the court both at training in the lead up and especially at Nationals. Her performance on court in defence was a tower of strength for the team, constantly creating turnover ball. During Nationals Emma really showed the true competitor and teammate she is, always giving encouragement to her teammates especially the younger ones when the going got tough during the week.
THE CAPITAL DARTERS:
Coaches Award - Olivia Clark
In her first opportunity competing at the Australian Netball Championships, Olivia displayed great determination and growth over the campaign. Respectful in all interactions and resilient when faced with challenge, Liv upheld an impressive shooting accuracy of 88% across the week of the championships.
Darters MVP - Olivia Coleman
Creating the highest number of defensive gains and with the most playing minutes, Olivia played a crucial role in the on-court success of the Capital Darters team at ANC. Equally impressive was Olivia's professional approach to the campaign, leadership on defensive strategy and the promotion of the Darters performance based culture.

U23s Team Spirit - Hayley Matthew
The Team Spirit Award is the Player's Player award, voted by fellow teammates. This player makes a positive contribution to the team environment both on and off the court and upholds The Capital Spirit vision and values and leads on team culture.
U23s Coaches Award - Ashley Scensor
Ash stepped us this year both as an individual and as a leader. In her first year as captain, Ash led a very young and inexperienced team, and defensive end. Her work ethic, positivity and ability contributed to both the team's performance and her individual performance. In the first game of the season, Ash had contributed to 15 of 29 positive gains, and finished the last game with 14 of 42. She had a season of great personal improvement and growth.
U23s MVP - Jessica Berry
Jess had a very consistent year with strong performances every week. Her ability to shut down her attacking opponents, run our defensive structures and win ball was a huge asset for the team. Her ability to play at a high level across the WD and C position, was also noticed by our opponents, and it is great to be acknowledges in a voting process that includes other teams. Jess has been a positive contributor to our team performance on court, sets the standard at training, and has earnt the respect of her teammates with her effort, impact, and off-court interactions.
Up & Coming Award - Kaylah Upfield
Kaylah was the youngest player competing in the Netball NSW Premier League Opens Division. At just 16, she was unfazed by the challenge of playing against SSN players such as Lauren Moore and Teigan O'Shannassy. Highly competitive, goal driven and showing maturity beyond her years, Kaylah makes the most of every opportunity to pursue her netball ambitions. In 2022 Kaylah was also selected in the Netball NSW First Nations All Stars Team playing an SSN curtain-raiser against the GIANTS Academy.
Opens Team Spirit - Malia Harrison
The Team Spirit Award is the Player's Player award, voted by fellow teammates. This player makes a positive contribution to the team environment both on and off the court and upholds The Capital Spirit vision and values and leads on team culture.
Opens Coaches Award - Annick Theron
Promoted to the Opens team at the beginning of the season Annick quickly established herself as the starting WD. Her closing speed, competitiveness for a loose ball and tight 1on1 defence are trademarks of her play. A model of respect, hard work and always striving for success Annick is a deserving winner of the Coaches Award.
Opens MVP - Olivia Clark
In the season when Olivia became the most capped Capital Spirit Opens player, she is also the Most Valuable Player. Liv's shooting accuracy, volume, consistency and composure under pressure is why she is highly rated in the GA and GS role. Liv has the ability to quickly connect with anyone she plays with and always brings a team first mindset to training and matches. Her hard work and commitment was rewarded by re-selection in the Netball NSW First Nations All Stars Team.
MARIE LITTLE SHIELD:
The Marie Little Shield Blazing Bluebells were presented with personalised sweat towels as a token of good luck for their up coming competition at the end of October.

COMMUNITY AWARDS:
Umpire of the Year - Amanda McLachlan
Amanda is one of the top umpires in the ACT and this year was rewarded with opportunities at some of Australian Netball's pinnacle events. Amanda umpired The Capital Spirit Opens Division Premier League home game, the 2022 AMMNA Nationals held in Adelaide (including the Men's Grand Final), the Australian 17s and 19s National Camp held at the AIS, the HCF State League Division 1 Grand Final, and finally at the Australian Netball Championships in Traralgon.
Amanda's professionalism and dedication to umpiring both on and off the court is incredible. Amanda has been travelling from Wagga since 2014 to umpire in the HCF State League competition. Doing the 2hr 40min drive to the ACT every Friday night of the competition and then home again after she has umpired. Her support of other umpires officiating in the 2022 NACT State League competition has been very beneficial.
Coaching Excellence Award - Emily Clark
Emily is a results driven coach who has a natural rapport with her players, players from other teams, officials and coaches. Emily ensures her players are in a supportive environment where they are encouraged and empowered to achieve their goals. She has a genuine interest in all her players and supporting their development at all levels of the game.
Emily is always looking at how she can improve as a coach and seeks constructive advice from her coaching mentors and takes onboard what they share. In 2022 Emily led the Belconnen 19&U HCF State League team to their first premiership since 2006.
SolarHub Home Grown Hero - Tania Rynne
Tania has been a long-term volunteer at Netball ACT throughout many State League seasons. Tania has been an umpire, junior selector and bench official. Over the last 3 years Tania has volunteered for every senior state league game that she is available for. She represents SCNA with a fair and friendly approach to her bench official duties. Every week she scores for SCNA State League teams in every timeslot. This is not only great for our teams but provides SCNAs other volunteers support and other scorers' advice and confidence to assist and volunteer.
As well as weekly commitment to our state league teams, Tania also coached a junior Rep team, and is regularly down at Saturday netball mentoring young umpires and supporting SCNA players, umpires and volunteers. SCNA nominated Tania and wanted to thank her for the amazing contribution to their friendly and inclusive culture and for everything she does for the association.
