Following the team’s participation in the inaugural Australian Netball Championships (ANC) in 2022, the Capital Darters program is expanding this year to include an Academy. To be eligible, athletes must reside in the ACT and/or surrounding regions.
The Capital Darters Academy is a camp-based program that aims to further develop local ACT athletes through the Netball ACT pathway and provides a key link between the HCF State League competition and the ANC.
Led by Netball ACT Head Coach Kate Carpenter and Assistant Coach Kate Durham, the program will be supported by ACTAS under an MOU. Under this MOU, the Academy athletes will be provided with strength and conditioning, fitness testing, and performance recovery support. The program will also include court sessions, match play opportunities, and other performance education.
The Academy includes athletes who were part of the 2022 Capital Darters Team and Training Partners and Australian 17 & Under National Squad athletes Alice Henman and Sophia Martinussen.
“The Darters Academy is an opportunity for our talented athletes in the ACT to improve their technical and tactical skills.” Netball ACT CEO Sally Clark said. “The MOU with ACTAS provides excellent support for our players to promote and drive excellence in their daily training environment. I look forward to watching these athletes develop over the coming months."
The Capital Darters Academy is currently underway, with the first Academy camp being held this weekend.
