Seven teams will compete on the Marie Little Shield stage in Sydney this month as the national all-abilities event makes its anticipated return.
Hosted in partnership with Netball NSW, the 2022 Marie Little Shield netball competition will provide female athletes with an intellectual disability the chance to compete at the national level.
State based teams will play in eight rounds across three days with competition commencing in just 20 days' time on Wednesday 26 October.
Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia are all confirmed to compete at Netball Central, Sydney Olympic Park, with the champion to crowned on Friday 28 October.
Netball Australia Executive General Manager of Suncorp Super Netball, Events and Commercial Adam Richardson congratulated the selected athletes from around the country to participate.
“It is fantastic to have our teams, athletes and fixture locked in for the 2022 Marie Little Shield competition after such a long-awaited return,” Richardson said.
“It is no small thing to represent your state on the netball stage, and we congratulate every named athlete.”
As hosts of the 2022 edition, New South Wales will be looking to reclaim the Marie Little Shield title after South Australia last took out the competition in 2019.
“The countdown to the 2022 Marie Little Shield is on and we are delighted to have this great event returning to Netball Central,” Tim Fava, Netball NSW Executive General Manager of Community and Pathways, said.
“Netball is a game for everyone, and the return of the Marie Little Shield is vital to ensure quality competition for our participants. After two years of COVID cancellation, I think we’ll have some very special days of competition at Sydney Olympic Park.
“I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in bringing the Marie Little Shield back in 2022, especially Netball Australia and our team at Netball NSW. We look forward to welcoming athletes, coaches and fans from all over the country.”
The 2022 Marie Little Shield is a free event that will be open to the public to watch and support.
