The GMI State League has officially wrapped up for 2026, with Sunday’s Gala Grand Final Day delivering a spectacular celebration of ACT netball and five different associations walking away with a premiership across the five divisions.
From nail-biting one-goal finishes to an overtime thriller in the Men’s League, the Grand Final Day had everything a netball fan could ask for.
With the best players from across Canberra taking to the court at the SolarHub ACT Netball Centre, the stage was set for a huge day of finals action and the teams delivered.
Five Divisions. Five Premiers.
The first premiership of the day went down to the wire in the 17/U Division, with South Canberra holding their nerve to defeat Canberra 44–42 in a thrilling two-goal contest.
South Canberra’s Deni Sison was named Finals MVP after a dominant performance in the shooting circle, playing a pivotal role in South Canberra's victory.
The 19/U Division saw Queanbeyan produce a strong performance to claim the premiership, defeating South Canberra 36–24.
Queanbeyan’s goal keeper Chelsea McKenzie produced a standout defensive performance, helping restrict South Canberra’s shooters to just 24 goals for the match and earning herself the 19/U Finals MVP award.
In Division 2, Canberra and Tuggeranong couldn't be separated for much of the contest, with Canberra eventually securing a hard-fought 50–49 victory in another one-goal thriller.
Canberra’s Evie Foote was named Division 2 Finals MVP following a standout performance at both ends of the attack, combining her accuracy in the shooting circle with strong work up front to help deliver the ball into the circle.
Her combination with Kaelani Goolagong, whose strong holds under pressure proved crucial, helped Canberra secure the one-goal victory.
The Men's League then produced arguably the most dramatic contest of the day.
Arawang and Queanbeyan battled through four quarters unable to be separated, sending the Grand Final into overtime. In a tense finish, Arawang held their composure to claim the premiership 62–59.
A standout performance from Arawang co-captain Nathan Mazengarb saw him named Men’s League Finals MVP. Starting strongly in defence before transitioning into the midcourt, Nathan helped provided the pressure and intensity Arawang needed to level the contest and send the Grand Final into overtime, before helping his side ultimately claim the win.
The final game of the day saw Tuggeranong and Arawang meet in the Division 1 decider for third year in a row, with Tuggeranong producing a dominant second-half performance to secure a 69–48 victory and finish the GMI State League season as Division 1 premiers in a history breaking fourth premiership in a row.
Favour Lokodu was named Division 1 Finals MVP following a dominant performance in defence. Her strong combination with Malia Harrison made it difficult for Arawang’s feeders to find their shooters, applying consistent pressure throughout the match and playing a key role in the victory.
The result was a fitting finale to another outstanding season of GMI State League netball, with the competition showcasing the depth of talent across the ACT.
Five divisions produced five different winners, highlighting the competitiveness of the competition and the strength of netball across Canberra.
