GIANTS Netball fan base in Canberra continues to grow, with regional areas surrounding the ‘Bush Capital’ taking up the opportunity to watch their favourite Suncorp Super Netball team in action at the AIS Arena.
The Junee Junior Netball Association is one such group, chartering a bus for 67 people to attend Sunday’s match. The group will leave Junee at 8am on Sunday morning to arrive just ahead of the GIANTS clash with the Firebirds. The Association comprises of just six team across junior age divisions and an open-age team, but had no trouble filling interest in chartering transport to Canberra for the match with all places taken within three days of announcing the trip.
Rob Vergano, President of the Junee Junior Netball Association said it was an opportunity that they looked at very early in the season, with the Canberra match being a great opportunity for country kids to watch their hero’s in action on the court.
“We are looking for ways in keeping the girls interested. Competition is strong for sport here with league and soccer, this is just a really great way for them to see what is possible.” Vergano says of the GIANTS Canberra match.
With a strong comradery amongst the group, many of the young players also have parents playing in the open-age team, the trip will not only be an opportunity for the team to watch the GIANTS in action but a great community experience for the association.
Mr Vergano goes onto add “We were able to organise a group booking through the GIANTS ticketing services so we are all sitting together across two or three rows. The girls are just so excited to see the team in action.”
With only one match scheduled for Canberra each season, the sales of tickets have been increasingly strong each year, and the 2019 game will be no exception with a sell-out in sights for the franchise.
GIANTS Netball v Firebirds take the court at AIS Arena Sunday 4th of August at 1pm.
