Netball ACT would like to announce the diversification of their elite pathways following on from the introduction of The Capital Spirit.
Netball ACT are now pleased to advise that they will be entering an ACT based Australian Netball League (ANL) franchise in the 2020 season. Netball ACT will commence with plans to deliver their 2020 team which will further build on their elite athlete program within the region.
This news closely follows last week’s announcement that Netball ACT has also been successful in their bid for a franchise in the Netball NSW Premier League competition, The Capital Spirit, commencing next year.
“We have enjoyed our time working with Netball NSW and GIANTS Netball across the past three years around the Canberra GIANTS program. We commit to maintain a strong connection to GIANTS Netball with the continued delivery of Suncorp Super Netball games in Canberra” said Nicole Bowles, Acting General Manager for Netball ACT.
Bowles goes on to add “This will be a significant turning point for netball within the ACT, we are taking a strong step forward in 2020 to offer opportunities for athletes based in Canberra to compete at both the Premier League and ANL levels”
The announcement will herald a new era of performance for Netball in the ACT, something that Netball ACT President Louise Bilston is eager to watch unfold,
“We see this endeavour into sole-ownership of an Australian Netball League franchise as highlighting the depth of talent in our region, the commitment of our members and our community to our sport and the strength of our sport as the number one female participation sport in our community. This is an exciting time to be a part of the future Netball ACT is building”
“We have been focused on growing our capacity, developing opportunities and driving our business to be ready for this next step forward, the timing is right and we are seizing the opportunity that comes before us”, Bilston says of the next phase of development for Netball ACT.
