The Capital Spirit entered the Origin Energy Premier League with 17 of the 23 players named in Round 1 making their competition debut. Learning from their Round 1 performance they have their sights set on Round 2, where they will take on the Sutherland Stingrays. Both teams are chasing their first win for the season across both divisions after the Stingrays suffered two losses in Round 1 against the Manly Warringah Sapphires.
The Stingrays U23’s finished last season in 8th place and the Spirit will be looking to capitalise on their opportunities throughout the game. Seeking to reduce their unforced errors across the court and increase shooting accuracy Head Coach Kim Symons is confident the team has learnt from the maiden game and are ready to take on Round 2.
Finishing in 4th place in 2019 the Stingray Opens are seeking another finals birth in the 2020 season. The Spirit Opens know tonight will be a tough encounter given the team comprises of six players who are currently or have previously played within the Deakin University Australia Netball League.
Opens Head Coach, Kate Carpenter says “the team has refined a lot of what we did last week in terms of processes prior to the match and fine tuning our structures against different opposition. These areas will broadly have a big impact on tonight’s performance, and we are looking forward to tonight’s match.”
