Netball ACT is pleased to announce the Head Coaches for the 19 & Under and 17 & Under State programs that will head to the National Netball Championships (NNC) in Darwin in April 2023.
Canberra Netball Association's Tara Steel will be the Head Coach for the 19&U team, and Belconnen Netball Association's Daniela Gray will be the Head Coach for the 17&U team.
Tara will bring a wealth of knowledge to the program, her most experience coaching The Capital Spirit U23s team in the NSW Origin Energy Premier League competition.
In 2018 and 2019 Tara was the Head Coach of the 19&U State team and has been the Head Coach at CNA for a number of years, leading their Division 1 team to multiple grand finals and premierships in the HCF State League.
For the 17&U Head Coach Daniela, this will be her first Nationals as a Head Coach and she is ready to combine her experience as a teacher with growing netball experience and perform as a coach for the State.
Daniela has been involved in the ACT pathway programs as a specialist coach for the Netball ACT Academy over the last two years and was previously a Manager in the State program for three years.
In 2021 Daniela also led the Belconnen Netball Association Division 2 team to a Minor Premiership, until the season was abandoned due to COVID-19.
Netball ACT Head Coach Kate Carpenter congratulated Tara and Daniela on their appointment as Head Coaches.
"Both Tara and Daniela are athlete-central coaches with considerable experience working with pathway athletes of this age," Kate said.
"I am excited by the upcoming State Campaign and the ability for these coaches to implement innovation and change within our State program."
Phase 1 of trials will be held this weekend, Saturday 12th November with Phase 2 to be completed the following weekend, and squads to be announced in early December.
