Netball ACT is pleased to announce that experienced coach Kim Symons has been appointed as Head Coach of the ACT 19 & Under team for 2022. The team will compete at the 2022 National Netball Championships to be held in Hobart in April.
With both the 2020 and 2021 National Netball Championships not proceeding as a result of COVID-19, 2022 will be somewhat of a reset for these Championships.
Symons was excited by her appointment “I am looking forward to the 2022 Nationals campaign, particularly with the depth of athletes trialling. I am really looking forward to returning to coaching at a National Championship and implementing the experience gained over the past two years, while coaching in the NSW Premier League competition.”
Netball ACT Manager High Performance / The Capital Spirit Head Coach Kate Carpenter congratulated Kim on her appointment adding that her recent experience as The Capital Spirit Under 23’s Head Coach and her knowledge of the athletes in this age group would be a key to a successful Nationals campaign.
Supporting Kim will be Michaley Phokos who has been reappointed as Assistant Coach for the 2022 program, and Tan Nguyen who has been appointed as an Apprentice Coach for the Hobart campaign.
Netball ACT will be focussing on greater competitive opportunities in preparation for the 2022 National Netball Championships, including Heart Kids Cup. This will build on the recent higher level of competition that many athletes in this age group have experienced in NSW Premier League over the past two seasons.
Trials for the 17 & Under and 19 & Under athletes will take place this Saturday and the following Monday with a squad to be named to start its preparations for the 2022 Championships.
