This announcement follows the appointment of Kate Carpenter to the position of Head Coach (Opens team/ACTAS) for the franchise.
With a remarkable 30 years’ experience within the Netball ACT organisation and community, Symons brings expansive knowledge of the high-performance framework and athlete pathway to the organisation.
Symons is familiar with the elite netball environment in Canberra having held the position of Assistant Coach with the Canberra Darters (2011-2014) in the Australian Netball League, over 11 years of coaching and development of the ACT State teams, and the most successful State League coach in ACT history having coached the Arawang District Association Division 1 team to an unparalleled 10 grand finals in 13 years. Symons is also currently the Head Coach of the ACT Men’s team.
David Marjoribanks, CEO of Netball ACT believes that the knowledge of the ACT high-performance program that Symons brings will be an invaluable asset “We are not only excited to have Kim on board given her experience and exceptional track-record as an elite coach, but we’re extremely proud to have appointed a person from within the Netball ACT organisation to this important role.”
Marjoribanks adds “Kim has time and again proven her ability to identify and develop talented young athletes, and to nurture that talent into results on court. Her role within The Capital Spirit will be key to the development of a sustainable pathway for future elite netballers in the ACT.”
Symons is excited for what the new franchise will deliver to netball in the ACT “It’s exciting times for Netball ACT and our first year competing in the in the Netball NSW Premier League competition. I very much wanted to be a part of developing our athletes to compete at this level each week- I want to be a part of building a competitive, high-performance culture in the ACT.”
Overseeing the younger cohort of athletes for The Capital Spirit franchise, Symons believes this will provide unique challenges and opportunities, “The 23s group will be a much younger team, so our expectations are to build momentum throughout the season and create a strong foundation for sustainable success for The Capital Spirit for many years to come.”

The Capital Spirit will begin athlete selection in early December, with the team set to take the court in 2020 in the Netball NSW Premier League competition.
