GIANTS Netball took over the ACT on Saturday 2nd of August, heading to local District Associations across the region to meet their growing number of fans and promote participation.
GIANTS Netball returned to the ACT for their Suncorp Super Netball Round 11 clash against the Firebirds at the AIS Arena over the weekend. GIANTS Netball Players joined the crowds at Saturday netball across the ACT’s region 5 Associations to meet some of their youngest fans.
Georgia Marshall and Amy Parmenter made an appearance at the Belconnen Netball Association and savoured in the opportunity to get in amongst the NetSetGo program before meeting more of the girls and boys who had been playing when they arrived.
Marshall reminisced on her time growing up on the courts at Belrose in New South Wales, the opportunity to meet players as she was learning and developing and how amazing it is to be able to now give back to netball communities as a GIANT.
“It’s amazing, we had it back at my local club back in Belrose, we would have the big girls come in and everyone would get so excited and it is really nice to see all the girls get excited and for us to come in and see their environment and how they play.” Marshall said.
Both Georgia and Amy were members of the Canberra GIANTS Australian National League (ANL) franchise and are excited to return to the region with huge support and excitement. Parmenter expressed her excitement at how great it is to see the development pathways in play, as more of the Canberra GIANTS come into the squad during the course of the 2019 season.
“I have always loved playing down in Canberra and having that connection with Canberra from playing with them for the last two years is really cool,” Parmenter said, when asked about her connections to netball in the ACT.
“I am really excited to play, you can see how the pathway is working, there are a lot of girls that have played and even the girls that are filling in this week are all Canberra GIANTS so it is really cool that there is such a good connection.” Parmenter went on to add.
Seeing the GIANTS Netball players around the ACT region provided a whole new generation of netballers the opportunity to ask questions and meet their role models.
To cap off an exciting weekend in GIANTS Netball for the ACT, the game against the Firebirds was a sell-out, breaking previous attendance records and cementing the support for the franchise in the ACT.
