Canberra is another location on a long list of different places Kate Carpenter has lived and worked. Places like Botswana, Singapore, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Sri Lanka are locations some people can only dream of visiting. While Carpenter is here to work, she doesn’t under-estimate the opportunities that might cross her lap in terms of what she will see in Australia.
“When you go places, you don’t know what time you are going to have and where you are going to end up because when I live in these places I am not there for a holiday but actually you end up doing this stuff just as you do when you live in a country.”
Carpenter has found her spirit and is ready to take on The Capital Spirit and the unique opportunity of entering the Netball NSW Premier League (for the first time. Carpenter was announced as the Head Coach for The Capital Spirit in October and is relishing the opportunity to learn and build her experience in an Australian netball context.
As a Kiwi being a part of an Australian netball competition from the inside is something that Carpenter is looking forward too.
“For me as a Kiwi, it is in an Australian context so that is quite fun as well. While I have worked in different places around the world, every place is different and from the outside in, I have been involved in Australia competitions but not from the inside.” Carpenter said.
The freshness around The Capital Spirit brings an exciting opportunity for Carpenter to draw on her experience but also build it further.
“In the head coach role, you have the ability to build it shape it and put your own kind of spin on it and to draw from your experiences in the past, what’s worked and what hasn’t,” Carpenter said.
“It is an exciting opportunity. It is the newness around the competition and the team, in terms of being able to lead a group in the Netball NSW Premier League. New athletes, new coaches, new environment and service provisions and that is always fun, sure it comes with a lot of challenges, but it is that freshness that is really exciting.” Carpenter continued.
Carpenter has found her Spirit and is ready for this unique opportunity to begin.
