Re: We are all in this together
What we are experiencing is unlike anything we have seen before. This should be one of the busiest times of the year. Instead, we are at home not able to play the game we all love. While COVID-19 has created a situation that we could not begin to imagine only a few short months ago, we will bounce back if we support our game, our clubs and each other.
Netball ACT is working closely with all our district associations (Arawang, Belconnen, Canberra, South Canberra and Tuggeranong), Government and our Netball family across the country (Netball Australia and all the State Member Organisations), to plan and navigate what is a constantly shifting and complex landscape. COVID-19 impacts netball from grassroots to elite levels, and its effects are significant and unprecedented for our organisation and our members. This virus will not beat us - we are an inclusive, resilient sport that values each and every one of our players, coaches, umpires and their families. We are determined to return bigger and better.
Unfortunately, we have already made some hard decisions, and we expect we will need to make some more. We have ceased all netball activities and our courts are empty. Netball ACT staff will work reduced hours. While these are difficult decisions to make, especially for our dedicated and hard-working team, they are necessary to ensure we remain sustainable when this virus passes. We would like to thank our affected staff and volunteers for their professionalism and understanding, without which we couldn’t take definitive action to protect our future.
We will achieve the very best outcome we can for netball. We will continue to communicate with our members throughout what will be a, long and difficult few months. Keep an eye out for some of the new initiatives we will be delivering on-line to stay engaged with netball. And we want you to keep in contact with us, share your stories and photos of how you are keeping the netball spirit alive.
The health and well-being of our netball family is at the forefront of all decisions made. Please do everything that you can to help slow the spread of COVID-19 across our wider community by following the social distancing advice, travel restrictions, hygiene practices and other measures in place, and please look after yourselves and each other.
Yours sincerely,
Louise Bilston David Marjoribanks
