Monday 29th November Award Announcements:
Under 19s MVP - Caprice Barnes
SolarHub Homegrown Hero Award - Shaenice & Mandy Allan
Coaching Excellence - Victoria Schmahl
Vic Schmahl is the Head Coach of the South Canberra Netball Association (SCNA) Division 1 HCF State League team and was also appointed Coach of the ACT Marie Little Shield team for 2021. Vic is very generous with her time and in addition to developing improved team performance, focuses on individual players ensuring that they become the best that they can be. SCNA’s Division 1 on-court performance improved significantly during 2021 and their strong momentum towards the end of the season saw them just miss out on finals by percentage only. Vic also did a great job of preparing the 2021 ACT Marie Little Shield team for the National Championships in Sydney before these were sadly cancelled due to COVID. The enthusiasm of this team and the way they came together was evident when the team attended a SCNA HCF State League game towards the end of the year.
Umpire of the Year - Carmel Weatherburn
Carmel Weatherburn has been selected as 2021 Netball ACT Umpire of the Year. Carmel is an All Australia (AA) badged umpire and has more than 40 years of experience in our sport. Carmel dedicates countless hours to assist, educate and mentor umpires at all levels in the ACT. Carmel continues to umpire Division 1 and Men’s Division and attends all HCF State League competition and rules discussions. In 2021, Carmel has continued to demonstrate a high level of umpiring on the court and significant mentoring and coaching off the court.
