Netball ACT National Netball Championship teams headed to Brisbane last week to compete against the best players from across Australia in the U/19 and U/17 age divisions.
In seven days of fierce competition, which will culminate today at the Queensland State Netball Centre, both ACT teams demonstrated strength and skill – with the score line not always accurately reflecting the close competitive nature of the game.
Adele-Marie Bullock, Head Coach of the U/17 squad said of her players, “We’re really pleased with our performances this campaign. We have really focused on our processes and trusted that by doing this we would see it reflected on the score board, and we think that has happened. We have built and improved with each game, and it was pleasing to see it all come together to challenge and win quarters against traditionally bigger states such as Victoria and Western Australia.”
This was true of key games in the preliminary finals were both teams held strong games in the initial stages of the games, with close end scores. Both teams were tenacious in representing the ACT with pride and great sportsmanship.
Bullock goes on to add, “Before we left we spoke about intensity and playing for the whole 60 minutes and I think you could see that effort on the court, particularly in our 42-22 win over Tasmania. We know our job isn’t over yet, one more final game to go, but the athletes have pulled up well and are looking forward to the rematch tomorrow.”
With positive take-aways for the future player development of Netball ACT, the 2019 National Championships highlighted the strengthened foundation of our U/19 and U/17 programmes.
