Division one will see a rematch from the 2018 Grand Final, with fierce rivals Canberra and Arawang facing off. Both teams have been dominant all season, however Canberra is yet to lose a game and Arawang will need to back-up from a gritty win over Belconnen in last weeks preliminary final.
With so much history in the making this weekend, teams are aware of how important a strong game will be in securing the title.
Arawang Netball Association division three team will look for their eighth consecutive championship, while Canberra Netball Association division one team will be out to retain their undefeated season status and take the title for 2019.
Arawang Netball Association will also have a team in each of the three divisions, showing the depth of talent within their district representative players.
Speaking to the media this week, Leigh Kalsbeek (Arawang Team Captain) was clear that Arawang need to deliver a full court performance in order to secure the win, “This has been a very different season for us. We need to deliver court pressure from the goal shooter to the goal keeper.”
Kalsbeek goes on to add “Canberra are a strong team, we need to have a good start”.
Canberra Association counterpart Tamara Weatherburn (Vice Captain) was adamant that last year’s outcome is not the driving factor for her team going , “While we have reflected on last year, our focus is to build on what we have this year as a team’.
As for any nerves ahead of the big game on Sunday, “Nerves are a good thing, we channel that into energy”, Weatherburn said.
“Our HCF State League competition has continued to grow and deliver quality netball week in, week out this season. It is an impressive depth of talent across our district associations, and really showcases the best of Netball in the ACT” says Nicole Bowles, Acting General Manager of Netball ACT
Bowles goes on to add, “We are extremely happy with the partnership with HCF this season, their mutual focus on going above and beyond for their members mirrors our own values. It’s an ideal partnership when you have the most trusted health insurance brand and the most trusted sport in Australia come together”.
Games will switch from their regular Friday schedule to Sunday 28th of July with games underway from 11am.
