With the announcement of athlete nominations opening earlier this week for the Capital Darters, Netball ACT is proud to announce that the team will be led by former South African international Bronwyn Bock-Jonathan at the Australian Netball Championships (ANC) in September.
Bock-Jonathan was set to lead the Capital Darters in their inaugural Australian Netball League (ANL) campaign back in 2020, before the cancellation of the competition due to the COVID-19 outbreak. With the ANL competition being replaced by the new look tournament style ANC in 2021, Bock-Jonathan has signed on as Head Coach for the 2021 campaign.
With 51 international caps, the former South African Proteas Captain arrived in the ACT in 2008 to coach the original ACT franchise, the Canberra Darters. Whilst representing South Africa she was the flag bearer for the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games where the side placed 5th and Captain of the 2007 Netball World Cup Proteas team that finished in 6th place,
Bronwyn is a current High Performance accredited coach and is a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Sport Science. Bronwyn currently works for the Australian Institute of Sport as the Project Lead, People Development and Wellbeing.
“I’m really pleased for the talented players in the ACT to have the opportunity to showcase their skills and talents at this year’s ANC,” Bock-Jonathan said.
Bronwyn added “The structure of ANC this year is the best way to manage COVID and will replicate international tournaments like the Commonwealth Games and Netball World Cup, which will give invaluable experience for aspiring international netballers.”
CEO of Netball ACT, Matthew Battams said “I am incredibly excited that Netball ACT has gained the services of Bronwyn for our Capital Darters campaign. Bronwyn’s knowledge, experience and her undoubted ability to lead and inspire, will be of huge benefit to all athletes and to netball in the ACT.”
